Camping
There are many places to camp in the area. The Michigan DNR has several camp sites. Republic Township has 2 main camp sites.
We will mention the 2 Republic Township sites first.
They are:
Moose Rapids Rustic Camp Ground on River Rd. Go west on River Rd several miles. Moose Rapids has rustic camping, canoe and kayak launching with a good will fee box. Rules may be obtained at the Township Hall at 906-376-8827.
Munson Park in town in North Republic.
Munson Park Camping Guidelines:
Attention: Use of this Camping Area is on the honor system and campers are requested to properly abide by the following guidelines:
1. Only licensed inhabitable recreational vehicles will be allowed to occupy camp sites at this camping area. This does not imply that tenting is not permitted.
2. Unoccupied vehicles or sites left for a long duration will be requested to leave. An occupancy request will be given for a duration of up to two weeks.
3. A suggested daily donation of $10.00 for camping/electrical hookup is being requested. Individuals should inquire at the Republic Township Hall to make this donation and indicate the length of their stay. Twp. Hall hours are: Monday-Thursday--9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Fridays--10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. After hours please check in at Maki's Mini Mart.
4. Proper maintenance of the camper site is expected and all litter and trash should be picked up and properly disposed of regularly and upon leaving.
5. A septic dump site is not available - other arrangements need to be made for this service.
6. When special activities are being held camping will be available by special arrangement of those sponsoring the activity such as: The Annual Fishing Derby, the Republic Festival Day, etc..

Michigan DNR Camp Grounds:
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has 2 camp grounds in Republic Township. Both are off the Fence River Road near the South end of the township. Look for the large brown signs on M-95 prior to the Fence River Rd. Turn West and go West and watch for the brown DNR signs with arrows. Both have boat launch facilities. Consider checking out the Fishing link in the left column of this page.
The Horseshoe Lake Camp Ground will be first about .9 of a mile down the Fence River Rd., see the DNR sign and turn right at Horseshoe Lake Rd. Follow the road about a half mile. Then follow the DNR Camp Ground signs.
The Squaw Lake Camp Ground will be second. From M-95, follow the Fence River Rd. about 2 miles. Just after an S turn, see the DNR sign and turn right on Squaw Lake Rd. Follow the road for about 1.5 miles and look for the DNR Camp Ground signs.
