Hiking is one of the most popular sports in the U.P. In Republic, food is available at Maki's Mini Mart and Summer Place Resturant in North Republic.

Perhaps the best accomodations for hikers are located at CedarHurst Lodge, Pine Crest Resort ,Private Island, and Lost Lake Lodge. In addition, all proprietors can offer on site and township wide directions to other hiking trails.
