There are two (2) documents of Republic History the RAHS have put together. Neither has an author or is copyrighted. The result is a recap of Republic from those volunteers who wanted to provide information and photos (black & white) copies of copies.
The first document is from Republic's beginning, about 1870, describing the town, people, and businesses through the 1970's. The unnamed volunteers and authors wrote this in 2001. You will see references to the 1980's, 1990's, and 2000. The depth of history for 1980 to 2000 is missing.
The second document concerns the Republic Move by The Cleveland Cliffs, Inc. between 1955 and 1973. A portion of Republic was relocated to a potato field South of the original settlement. Several volunteers are named in this document and is believed to have been written in 2001.
A word of caution to the viewer...Both files are very large, ie, Republic History 13 MB and Republic-Move 22 MB. It is recommended that only those persons using high-speed open or download the files, otherwise for dial-up users, it may take 15 to 60 minutes to open or download.
The two documents may be viewed in Adobe Reader. If you do not have Adobe Reader, click on the Adobe icon below which will take you to the Adobe web site where you may download a copy of Adobe Reader free.
