Regular Monthly Meeting
Monday, August 20, 2007
Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Leslie Hurst at 7:14 p.m.
Members Present: Marcy Rankinen, Glenn Adams, Diane Tapio, Leslie Hurst, Bill Payne, Zoning Administrator, and Peggy Lahtela
Members Absent: Vickie Radcliffe and Jay Mattila
Visitor: Fred Nannestad
Minutes of the July regular meeting were read and approved on a motion by Glenn Adams with support from Diane Tapio. Motion carried unanimously.
Marcy Rankinen approved the agenda outline with support from Glenn Adams. Motion carried unanimously.

(a)Zoning Administrator Report
1. Application for Zoning compliance permits
Jay Feely to build new garage on Holli Blue Road----approved 7/23/07
Bruce Pantti wants to add a garage between River Road and Michigamme River----
Approved 7/27/07
Dan Walther wants to add additional deck space to existing home-----approved 7/27/07
2. Land Division Application
Stephen Luoma has resubmitted application for land division with location and
description of parent parcel
Marie Oja wants to divide parent parcel # 52-12-235-010-00 creating a new 15.75
acre parcel in the south end of the parent parcel
Land Division Motion by Marcy Rankinen and supported by Diane Tapio to table the Luoma land division until legal description of the three (3) proposed parcels is included. (Parcels A, C, and D----item 3H on the application. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion to approve the Marie Oja land division by Peggy Lahtela with support from Glenn Adams. Motion carried unanimously. Legal description--Township of Republic, County of Marquette, State of Michigan. SW1/4 of SE 1/4 of Section 35 T46N,R30W) Materials attached.
(b) Parks and Recreation----no report
(c) EDC--suspended
(d) Heritage Trail
Group met with Roger Krimmens and had a good meeting
No immediate plans for the dam
GPS trail has been mapped
Tour will be conducted on August 21, 2007
Humboldt and Tilden Townships have joined the rec authority
(e) Zoning Ordinance Sub-Committee-----has been disbanded
(f) Ordinance Sub-Committee---will meet in September
(g) Community Meetings/Plan----will meet in September
(h) Campground Subcommittee--guidelines have been posted. Will work on a system
of collecting fees for next summer
(i) Website Updates--we now have 95 pages and 69 pictures on the site. Many new
things have been added. Fred Nannestad requests that notices of things of interests be
brought to his attention
Old Business
First meeting on the committee consisting of the Planning Commission, Jim Fegan, Jon Mykkanen, and Duane Oja to work on the Master Plan/Re-Zoning will be on Wednesday September 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall. Members will work on a voluntary basis.
As it is a public meeting notices must be posted and minutes kept.
Meeting adjourned on a motion by Marcy Rankinen with support from Glenn Adams. Motion carried unanimously.
