Regular Meeting
Republic Township Board
January 15, 2007
PRESENT: Adams, Hurst, Johnson, Mattila, Skogman
VISITORS: none
1. Supervisor Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:00pm in the Township Hall.
2. Salute to Flag
Supervisor Johnson called for a moment of silence in memory of Richard Oja, a former trustee who passed away yesterday.
3. Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to approve the agenda as presented. CARRIED.
4. Motion by Mattila, seconded by Johnson, to approve the minutes of the 12-18-06 regular meeting as presented. CARRIED.
5. Motion by Adams, seconded by Johnson, to pay the bills in the amount of #33,071.96.

7. REPORTS:
a) Trustee Hurst- no report
b) Trustee Adams- no report
c) DPW- the thumb has been welded onto the backhoe; have not heard back as of yet from Robert’s Filter in regards to the Filter plant repairs.
d) Ambulance- no report
8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a) Land Purchase- waiting for deeds from CCI.
b) Purchase of Township Property- Mykkanen deal; Twp needs an appraisal done.
9. NEW BUSINESS:
a) Street Light Request- Mr. Nyback is requesting the reinstallation of the street light by his home; request is denied.
b) Collection of School Taxes-
Motion by Adams, seconded by Skogman, to grant the Republic-Michigamme School District’s request to have the Township collect the district’s summer property taxes, with the School district reimbursing the Township $2.50 per parcel for said collection. CARRIED.
c) Republic Mine Sale- notification received that the property was purchased by Republic Mountain Lake LLC.
d) School Playground Grant Request-
Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to have Supervisor Johnson write a letter of support for the playground grant. CARRIED.

f) Bunk Property Issue- item tabled until February board meeting.
g) ATV Association Letter- received a letter requesting our support for them to use the “Heritage Trails” for ATV’s; trails are designated as non-motorized; Supervisor will send a letter explaining our position.
h) Road Name Change Request- Mike Tasson wants his portion of Chipmunk Trail renamed; request is denied; Township to buy 2 road signs-after April 1st- with signs to read ‘Dead End Road-No through Traffic’.

Budget Workshops-General Fund, Sewer, Water, Solid Waste
Republic Township
January 16, 2007
PRESENT: Adams, Hurst, Johnson, Mattila, Skogman
VISITORS: none
1. Supervisor Johnson called the meeting to order at 5:00pm in the Township Office.
2. PURPOSE OF MEETING: continue work on 2007-2008 fiscal year budgets.
General Fund
EMS Run Sheet Billing- EMS crew has reworked the costs listed on the billing sheets.
Motion by Skogman, seconded by Adams, to approve the EMS run sheet billing changes. CARRIED.
Sewer Fund
Auditors have strongly recommended that the Township must raise the sewer rates to accommodate increases in repair costs, etc.
Motion by Johnson, seconded by Hurst, to raise the sewer rate from $22.50 to $27.00 per month. CARRIED.
Water Fund
Motion by Mattila, seconded by Adams, to keep the water rates at their present level. CARRIED.
Solid Waste
Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to keep the garbage rates at their present level. CARRIED.
