Regular Meeting
Republic Township Board

PRESENT: Adams, Hurst [arrived after mtg had started due to severe weather], Johnson, Mattila, Skogman

VISITORS: 8 area residents

1. Supervisor Johnson called the meeting to order at 7pm in the Township Hall.

2. Salute to flag

3. Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to approve the agenda as presented. CARRIED.

4. Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to approve the minutes of the 04-26-07, 05-07-07 [elec. Comm.], and 05-15-07 [special] meetings as presented. CARRIED.

5. Motion by Mattila, seconded by Adams, to pay the bills as amended [re-do ck#32115/wrong calculation]. CARRIED.

6. PUBLIC COMMENT: length – 9.5 minutes

7. REPORTS:

a) Trustee Hurst- no report

b) Trustee Adams- attended MTA Spring District meeting

c) DPW- no report

d) Ambulance- Nancy Currie; 5 new EMT’s; question re: mileage reimbursement; entire crew needs driving course; fire extinguishers need attention.

 

BIOHAZARDOUS WASTE POLICY

All generators of biohazardous waste must strictly adhere to the following Republic Township Ambulance Service waste disposal guidelines.

Any biohazardous waste [i.e.: gloves, bandaging, etc.] will be placed in a biohazard container [clearly labeled as such and located in the Republic Emergency Services building]. When said container is full it will be taken to Bell Memorial Hospital for disposal by EMS personnel.

All sharps [i.e.: needles, lancets, etc.] will discarded in an approved sharps container [clearly labeled as such]. When said container is full it will also be disposed of at Bell Memorial Hospital by EMS personnel.

 

DO NOT PUT ANY UNCONTAINED LIQUIDS IN REGULAR TRASH OR DUMPSTERS

DO NOT RE-USE SHARPS WASTE CONTAINERS

Motion by Johnson, seconded by Adams, to approve the Biohazard Policy
which requires all biohazardous materials be bagged and disposed of at Bell Hospital. CARRIED.

e) Supervisor- spoke re: water line on Koeber Ave. & assessing problems.

1. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

a) Stubblefield/Court Action- Mr. Stubblefield called and spoke to Supervisor.

b) Dump Truck- still searching for a vehicle

c) RES Building Generator- still working out installation questions.

d) Highway Property Sale- appraised value is $12,500.

Motion by Johnson, seconded by Adams, to authorize Trustee Hurst to sit down with proposed buyer and work out an agreement. CARRIED.

e) Alley Abandonment- Road Comm. has agreed to our request for alley abandonment and to sign CDBG grant papers.

f) Bunk Case- they have said they plan to sue both the Township and the Coffee’s over property sale; attorney will handle matters.

a) Water Tank Closeout Hearing-

Public Comments on CDBG Grant

“It is a great project”

Supervisor Johnson declared the Water Tank Closeout Hearing adjourned.

b) Civil Rights Policy-

REPUBLIC TOWNSHIP CIVIL RIGHTS POLICY

General Public Policy

It is hereby declared to be contrary to the public policy of Republic Township for any persons to be discriminated against in employment, housing, or participation in publicly funded programs because of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, marital status, age, or handicap.

Employment

The opportunity to obtain employment without discrimination because of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, marital status, age, or handicap is hereby recognized and declared to be a civil right. Further, it shall be contrary to the public policy of Republic Township for any employer to discriminate in hire, promotion, tenure, terms or conditions of employment because of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, marital status, age, or handicap.

Housing

The opportunity to purchase, lease, sell, hold, use, and convey housing without discrimination because of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, marital status, age, or handicap is hereby recognized and declared to be a civil right.

Publicly Funded Programs

The opportunity to participate in federal, state, and locally funded programs without discrimination because of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, marital status, age, or handicap is hereby recognized and declared to be a civil right.

 

Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to adopt the Republic Township Civil Rights Policy. CARRIED.

c) Marquette Co. Road Comm. Request- they want to purchase gravel from our ‘River Road’ pit.

Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to authorize Supervisor Johnson to negotiate with them regarding the terms which would allow them to purchase gravel from said pit. CARRIED.

d) Tuck Point Work-Lift Station #4-

Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to authorize the “Mudmen” to do the tuck point work on Sewer Lift Station #4. CARRIED.

e) Bell Hospital Request- would like a letter of support regarding a grant to purchase 2 new ambulances.

Motion by Mattila, seconded by Adams, to authorize the Supervisor to write a letter of endorsement supporting their grant efforts. CARRIED.

f) CUPPAD Mini Grants- grants available up to $4,000.

g) Letter/Rep. Mountain Lake Owner- the Board received a copy of the letter to be sent to Mr. Crimmins; Supervisor wants Trustee Hurst to attend the meeting with Mr. Crimmins.

h) Cemetery Stone Cleaning- Mr. Munson has finished cleaning the Firemen’s and Veteran’s memorials; the Board authorizes Supervisor Johnson to do a survey of other stones under our responsibility that need cleaning and negotiate prices for cleaning of said stones.
