Republic Township Board
11-19-07PRESENT: Adams, Hurst, Johnson, Mattila, Skogman
VISITORS: County Commissioner Deb Pellow, B. Payne, V. Radcliffe, P. Lahtela, D. Tapio.1. Supervisor Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:00pm in the Township Hall.
2. Salute to Flag
3. Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to approve the agenda as amended. CARRIED.
8-B [debris removal] 9-F [Plan. Comm. vacancies]
9-G [office holiday hours]Board deviated from the agenda for items 9-A and 9E
4. Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to approve the minutes of the 10-25-07 meeting as presented. CARRIED.
5. Motion by Mattila, seconded by Adams, to pay the bills as presented. CARRIED.
6. PUBLIC COMMENT: length – 10.5 minutes
7. REPORTS:
a) Trustee Adams- attended the special Co. Road Comm. meeting.
b) Trustee Hurst- no report
c) Ambulance- written report; 1 EMT is currently not certified in EMS CPR.
d) Heritage Trail- written info on proposed millage.
e) Assessing- is a “work in progress”.
f) Website- written report from Mr. Nannestad.
8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a) Stubblefield- the issue is over and put to rest.
b) Debris Removal-
Motion by Hurst, seconded by Adams, to hire Charlie Niemi to remove the debris from the 2 demolished buildings, with the stipulation that the bill will not exceed $550. CARRIED, 4-yes, 1-no [Skogman].
9. NEW BUSINESS:
a) Lake Superior Community Partnership- Carol Fulsher & Greg Nominelli; they gave a presentation of what the organization does; dues for Republic Township to join would be $750 [basic membership] or $1,500 [full membership].
b) Ambulance Billing- Beth would like to resign after the end of this year; she is willing to stay on to train a replacement.
c) Poverty Exemption Resolution- Republic Township adopted it on 07-22-04.
d) UPSET Funding Request- they are requesting $1 per capita [$1,106]; it will worked into next years budget.
e) Planning Commission- discussed the sledding hill and any progress on clearing the hill; Supervisor stated that the Township can’t do any further work on it until next summer.
f) Planning Commission Vacancies- two 3-year terms expire at the end of December [Margaret Lahtela & Vickie Radcliffe].
Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to post for the vacancies with applications due for the December 20th meeting. CARRIED.
g) Holiday Office Hours-
Motion by Johnson, seconded by Adams, to set the following as Office Hours for the upcoming holidays. CARRIED.
Closed Friday November 23rd [Thanksgiving]
Closed December 24th – 25th – 26th [Christmas]
