Regular Meeting
Republic Township Board
10-26-06

PRESENT: Adams, Hurst, Johnson, Mattila, Skogman
VISITORS: T. Tuominen, N. Currie, B. Payne, T. Sandbloom

1. Supervisor Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:00pm in the Township Hall.

2. Salute to Flag

3. Agenda was presented for approval.

Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to approve the agenda as presented. CARRIED.

4. Minutes of the 09-28-06 regular meeting were presented for approval.

Motion by Mattila, seconded by Adams, to approve the minutes as presented. CARRIED.

5. PAYMENT OF BILLS:

Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to pay the bills in the amount of $76,399.92. CARRIED.

6. PUBLIC COMMENT: none offered

7. REPORTS:

a) Trustee Hurst- attended & reported on a “Business After Hours” meeting re: the Heritage Trail.

b) Trustee Adams- attended & reported on the County Solid Waste meeting.

c) DPW- filter plant is working; needs some final adjustments.

d) Ambulance- received 2 additional 800mgz radios [with grant monies]; facility & vehicle were inspected; reflective striping on ambulance is coming off.

9. NEW BUSINESS:

a) Schaedig Garbage Bill- request’s that one of his two seasonal garbage bills be voided.

Motion by Hurst, seconded by Skogman, to deny Mr. Schaedig’s request. CARRIED.

Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to approve the budget
amendments as presented. CARRIED.

c) Land Purchase- CCI lots by Munson Park - $24,500

Motion by Johnson, seconded by Adams, to pursue the purchase of said lots, contingent on financial assistance. CARRIED.

d) January Meeting- needs to be rescheduled due to MTA conference.

Motion by Adams, seconded by Johnson, to reschedule the January 2007 Board Meeting to Monday January 15th. CARRIED.

e) Munson Park Donation- The Township has received a $500 donation for maintenance of Munson Park from the Munson family.

f) Zoning Upgrade- there is a need to upgrade the Township’s Zoning Ordinance; CUPPAD would assist.

Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to authorize a total revision of Republic Township’s Zoning Ordinance, with the contract to specify that we would not have to pay for the work until after the start of the 2007-2008 budget year. CARRIED.

g) ECI/Matting- matter to be reviewed by the Planning Commission.

h) Zoning Administrator-

Motion by Hurst, seconded by Adams, to accept, with deep regret, the resignation of Zoning Administrator Leslie Hurst, effective November 24, 2006. CARRIED.

Motion by Hurst, seconded by Adams, to appoint Assistant Zoning Administrator Bill Payne to the position of Zoning Administrator, effective November 25, 2006, with his new term to expire December of 2009. CARRIED.

Resolution to Support Creation of a Marquette County Recreation Authority to provide for development and operation of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail

WHEREAS, the Township of Republic endorses the concept of the Recreation Authority to develop, manage and maintain the Iron Ore Heritage trail, and…

WHEREAS, the Township of Republic will work with its neighbors for the development of a connected trail system, and…

WHEREAS, the Township of Republic endorses the Iron Ore Heritage Trail as an interpretative trail with signage and interpretation of our history and traditions, and…

WHEREAS, the Township of Republic endorses the Iron Ore Heritage Trail as a tool for economic development through the preservation of our history and traditions…

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Township of Republic supports the formation of the Recreation Authority for the development, management and maintenance of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail.

Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to approve the above resolution.
ROLL CALL VOTE: Adams-yes, Hurst-yes, Johnson-yes, Mattila-yes,
Skogman-yes. CARRIED.

Republic Township Election Commission

PRESENT: G. Johnson, F. Mattila, V. Skogman
VISITORS: N. Wenberg

1. Clerk Skogman called the meeting to order at 1:02pm in the Township Office.

2. PURPOSE OF MEETING: To appoint election workers for the November 7, 2006 general election and to set compensation for said workers.

Motion by Johnson, seconded by Mattila, to appoint the following people as election workers for the November 7, 2006 general election: CARRIED.

Motion by Mattila, seconded by Johnson, to authorize compensation for the election workers at $11 per hour for precinct captains and $10 per hour for election workers. CARRIED.

Motion by Johnson, seconded by Mattila, to authorize the purchase of four election workers’ evening meal. CARRIED.

1. Supervisor Johnson called the meeting to order at 1:03pm in the Township Office.

2. PURPOSE OF MEETING: Bid/sale of old ambulance.

Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to sell the ambulance at the highest bid price received of $4,555. CARRIED.

3. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was declared adjourned at 1:05pm.
