Republic Township Board
09-25-08PRESENT: Adams, Hurst, Johnson, Mattila, Skogman
VISITORS: 9 area residents1. Supervisor Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:00pm in the Township Hall.

3. Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to approve the agenda with the following additions. CARRIED.
9-D (tree service) 9-E (vouchers)
1. Motion by Mattila, seconded by Hurst, to approve the minutes of the following meetings as presented. CARRIED.
08-28-08 (regular) 09-04-08 (special)
2. Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to pay the bills in the amount of $44,616.92; check to Haywood, Harrison to be withheld. CARRIED.
3. PUBLIC COMMENT: length – 7 minutes
4. REPORTS:
a) Adams- attended & reported on County Solid Waste & Planning Commission meetings.
b) Hurst/Heritage Trails- attended & reported on area Recreation Authority meeting; Wetlands Preserve grand opening is October 8th at the Gamble’s Creek area; buses with transport attendees from the Town Hall to the area starting at 9am.
c) Ambulance- Nancy Currie; having problems with lap-top computer; experiencing problems w/locked gates during ambulance runs.
d) Assessing- no report
e) Website- Mr. Nannestad; gave an extensive report.
f) DPW- as per “Filter Agreement”, Roberts did annual inspection.
Motion by Skogman, seconded by Hurst, to go out on prices for a 750 gallon above-ground diesel fuel tank. CARRIED.
Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to have Niemi Excavation haul 5 loads of crushed gravel for the cemetery road. CARRIED.
8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a) Road Repair Grant-
Motion by Adams, seconded by Mattila, to authorize Supervisor Johnson to sign the grant payment request in the amount of $14,013.64. CARRIED.
b) Water Line Grant- property owner has ok’d new water line ‘right-of-way’.
c) Old DPW Trucks- ’78 truck has been sold.
d) Ordinance Enforcement Officer- Mr. DeGenaro has signed the agreement.
e) Public Survey- Jim Brennan; gave Board a copy of the “to date” survey results.
f) Scrap Metal- no action
g) Republic Sign/Supplies- sign is installed; finishing work needs to be done.
Motion by Mattila, seconded by Adams, to purchase shingles for the sign at a cost of $110. CARRIED.
h) Smoke Test Results- waiting for the map.
1. NEW BUSINESS:
a) January Educational Conference/Detroit- January 26-30, 2009.
Motion by Skogman, seconded by Adams, to authorize interested Board members to attend the Educational Conference in January. CARRIED.
Motion by Hurst, seconded by Adams, to authorize transportation to the conference by whatever method each Board member prefers. CARRIED,

b) Zoning Ordinance Amendments-
Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to approve the Zoning Ordinance Amendments – Section 4 and Section 14 – as recommended by the Planning Commission. CARRIED.
c) ORV Access- the Township needs to decide if we want to close any roads within the Township to ORV access.
d) Tree Service- DPW wants the Township to hire a tree service to take down a large tree on 2nd Street.
Motion by Adams, seconded by Hurst, to authorize Supervisor Johnson to take the lowest bid to remove the tree on 2nd Street. CARRIED.
e) Vouchers- Trustees Hurst & Adams to work on the ‘voucher approval system’.
